Each year, some 550 new PhD candidates begin their research, and this group is very international. Utrecht University is a home to staff and students from 130 different countries. Among the international staff, English is the common colloquial language.

Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science offers PhD positions in the fields of Life Sciences, Natural Science and Pharmacy. Embarking on a career at our faculty is about bringing together bright minds from diverse backgrounds, disciplines and viewpoints.

You are the fundamental connection between research and education; between faculties and colleagues; between vast datasets and individuals. You play a crucial role in our quest to advance scientific research and to encourage the curious minds of the future through inspirational education.

While our staff members are all passionate about their own focus areas, the faculty also enjoys a truly multidisciplinary culture. We have 65 nationalities in our staff (including guests). Together with our students we are all defining, studying and sharing the insights of the future. Our bright minds are ambitious and overlapping and we know that working together is the only way to connect all the dots.

PhD Graduate Schools

The PhD and graduate research programmes at Utrecht University are organised within our Graduate Schools. The Faculty of Science has the following Schools:

• Graduate School of Life Sciences, together with the Faculty of Veterinary Science and the Faculty of Medicine (Utrecht Medical Centre)
• Graduate School of Natural Sciences (Computer and Information Science, Physics, Mathematics, Nanomaterials Science and History and Philosophy of Science)
• School of Pharmacy

Research groups and PhD candidates meet regularly to present their most recent work and exchange ideas. As a Utrecht PhD candidate, you will be able to draw on a wide range of concepts, techniques, contacts, viewpoints and practical tools.
