Professor Guillén Fernández is the Scientific Director of the Radboud University Medical Center and a Principal Investigator at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition, and Behavior. He received his medical degree, doctorate, and habilitation from Bonn University, and completed training in clinical neurology and cognitive neurosciences at Bonn, Magdeburg, and Stanford. In 2002, he became a founding Principal Investigator of the Donders Institute in Nijmegen. From 2010 to 2022, he served as Director of the Donders Center for Medical Neuroscience and Head of the Cognitive Neuroscience Department. His research focuses on the brain basis of memory, emotion, and their interaction, using an interdisciplinary approach that combines cognitive neuroimaging, genetics, pharmacology, and various clinical disciplines. Guillén Fernández is a Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion and a Fellow of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), Academia Europaea, and the Memory Disorder Research Society. He has received numerous awards, including the Richard-Jung Award from the German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology, the Vici Award from the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research, the Radboud Science Award, and an Advanced Investigator Grant from the European Research Council.
