Assistant professor Cristina Gontan Pardo
Scientist Cristina Gontan Pardo has a great love for the X chromosome. It is a major source of health disparities between men and women, she believes. And more people should know that. ‘When I ask colleagues whether the cells they are working with are male or female, they often have no idea.’
Associate Professor Stefan Barakat
Within 2.5 years, Erasmus MC clinical geneticist Stefan Barakat and his team reached a potential treatment and diagnosis for a previously unknown syndrome. They describe their discovery in Acta Neuropathologica. ‘Everything came together in this one study.’

Principal Investigator Miao-Ping Chien
Scientist Miao-Ping Chien and her team have designed and built a completely new type of microscope. In doing so, Chien hopes to boost research into rare cancer cells. ‘We can image tens of thousands of individual cells at once.’
